FCS Newsletter - Scholarships By Interest
FCS Newsletter: Aug. 13, 2009
Next Drawing: August 14, 2009

Hello FCS Subscriber . One way to start your scholarship search is by area of interest. Everybody has an interest. By focusing on our interests, our chances might well be much better in getting a scholarship award early in our efforts.

But keep in mind that FreeCollegeScholarships wants to help you pay for school too. We're offering a $10k scholarship drawing on Aug. 14th - all you have to do is register for the drawing. Click Here to Register

In this issue we are going to talk about turning our interests into money by getting grants and scholarships because of our interests whether or not we major in the interest area.

This approach can give you lots more money for college and when you combine the money you can get from your interest area with dollars you can get from other scholarships and grants, you might well get to the goal of getting someone else to pay for all of your college expenses.

Let's say you have an interest in photography. Simply go to Google search and enter Photography Scholarships. Just from the first ten listings of several thousand provided there are scholarship opportunities by an association for up to $500 (the North American Nature Photography Association), a private scholarship fund for up to $4,000 (the Millotte Scholarship Fund), a photography foundation for up to $1,000 (The World Studio Foundation) and two academic institutions for varying amounts (San Francisco State University and the Ohio Institute of Photography and Technology).

You do not need to major in your field, but usually more scholarships will be available if you do major in it. If you have an interest in photography, you could have a concentration in photojournalism, commercial advertising, photography, or any other related major. If you do so, even more specific scholarships will become available.

Here is a process you might find will work for you. Start by listing the things you are most interested in. You won't need more than twenty, but ten is enough. Rank the interest areas from most interested in to least interested in. Then do a computer search like the one above for photography. Go to Google and enter the first area of interest followed by the word Scholarships. Review the scholarships that are available to a person in this interest area and write down the amount and the donor for each scholarship you feel you would stand a good chance of getting. Follow this procedure for each area of interest. When you are finished you will have a good idea in which interest area you would have the greatest amount of scholastic money.

That's all for this week. Do not forget to register for the Aug. 14th FCS scholarship drawing, and stay tuned for next week's newsletter!

Good Luck!

"I have been really hard on myself about getting money for college. My mom kept telling me don't be disappointed if you don't get a job this summer. We will find a way to make it work.I knew I had to keep some hope in me and faith. So I kept putting in for scholarships hoping and praying I would some amazing news saying I had won and money would be sent to me so I could pay for my college.
As the spring semester started to come to an end at Hasting College doubts and fears filled my mind. I didn't know how I was going to pay for my next year of college which would be my sophomore year. I was thinking I would have to drop out of school and start looking for a part time or full time job then maybe start going to college all over again. Then I got a call from FreeCollegeScholarships saying I was a winner..."
