FCS Newsletter - Expand Your Online Search
FCS Newsletter: Sept. 12, 2009
Next Drawing: September 30, 2009

Hello Subscriber, Chances are, if you're reading this newsletter you're Internet savvy. That's good news, since the Internet might be the best place to research scholarships, grants and all the different ways to pay for school. There are four major sites to search. These are College Board Scholarships, CollegeNet Mach25, Fast Web, and CASHE.

One of the easiest and quickest ways to get started is at FreeCollegeScholarships. Here at FCS we want to help you pay for college and we’re holding a 10k scholarship drawing on Sept. 30th, 2009 . Click Here to Register.

In this newsletter we’ll talk about searching Internet data bases and often the first database searched is College Board Scholarships.

It has fewer total scholarships than some of the other databases, but most of the scholarships found are for a large number of awardees and for larger than normal amounts. To get to as many scholarships as possible, select several items from each category field.

On CollegeNET MACH25 you complete a five-category questionnaire inputting specifics about yourself. You also input search criteria. You will probably find more scholarships than you have time to apply for. If so, narrow down your search criteria and do multiple searches using only a few criteria at a time. If you see the same scholarships appearing on several of your searches, consider applying for these first.

Fast WEB says it is the largest scholarship search database on the Internet. Over 400,000 awards can be found from this database. However, you must fill out a detailed questionnaire and sign up for a free mailbox. Unfortunately, the characteristics of the search engine allow you to obtain only a limited number of scholarship recommendations for each search. Therefore, you will need to search multiple times using changing parameters.

Cashe Online Scholarship Search Service is a SallieMae sponsored database that asks you to submit data in much the same way as other search programs. However, CASHE (College Aid Sources for Higher Education) sends results to your email address. While they say they will respond within twenty-four hours, many people get responses back within an hour of submitting their input.

These four databases should provide a very good starting point to your scholarship and grant money searches. The combination of of these databases will probably give you more scholarship opportunities than you have time to follow up on. Rank your scholarship opportunity choices. You might select scholarships with the best ratio of applicants to awards or scholarships that provide the largest dollar amounts. Once you have ranked your choices, start applying. Set a weekly scholarship application goal.

Please remember to register for the Sept. 30th FCS scholarship drawing, and stay tuned for next week's newsletter!

Good Luck,
FCS Scholarships

"I have been really hard on myself about getting money for college. My mom kept telling me don't be disappointed if you don't get a job this summer. We will find a way to make it work.I knew I had to keep some hope in me and faith. So I kept putting in for scholarships hoping and praying I would some amazing news saying I had won and money would be sent to me so I could pay for my college.
As the spring semester started to come to an end at Hasting College doubts and fears filled my mind. I didn't know how I was going to pay for my next year of college which would be my sophomore year. I was thinking I would have to drop out of school and start looking for a part time or full time job then maybe start going to college all over again. Then I got a call from FreeCollegeScholarships saying I was a winner..."
