In this issue we'll discuss the positive impact a degree can have on your career. We also feature several scholarships targeting members of the military, mothers, actors and Native Americans.

What is the value of a bachelor degree?
People postpone college for many reasons. Many feel that they cannot afford to go away to a four year school. Others have responsibilities with their family, while many feel that it is a priority to start earning a salary.

However, the Census Bureau reports that, over an adult's working life, high school graduates will earn an adverage of $1.2 million, associate degree holders will earn roughly $1.6 million and those with a bachelor's degree will earn about $2.1 million.

This means that someone with a bachelor degree can earn almost twice as much as someone with a high school diploma. If you recently finished high school and are planning on working instead of getting a bachelor's degree, think again!

The more you learn, the more you earn
High School Diploma: $34K
Associate Degree: $46K
Bachelor's Degree: $65k
Master's Degree: $83k
Post Graduate Degrees: $103k

Keep Your Job and Get a Degree

Many people don't realize it, but its very common for students to work while they are enrolled in school. Acenet.edu reports that during the 2003-2004, 78% of undergraduates had part time jobs. Many schools require students to go to school only three days a week - and often for only a few hours a day. Combining school, work, family, sports and some relaxation time requires students to develop effective time management. This article by Dartmouth University outlines the keys to successful time management.

"When I first got that call I got chills when I heard it was from FCS, I couldn't believe it. When I heard i won the money I couldnt believe it , I first said "Are you serious?" I couldn't imagine something like this happening to me. It all came at the right time because this is my first year of college and I was struggling to get a loan and trying to pay off my dream school (Suffolk University). Being a full time student and a part time worker puts a damper on everything with my social life, but struggling to juggle all those things was a hassle. This scholarship is helping me pay for my second semester of college and I can't find any bigger word to thank you for that. Thanks FCS!"
