FCS Newsletter December 4, 2008
Next Drawing: December 15th, 2008

Hello FCS Subscriber! FCS Newsletters hopes that all of its subscribers had a great Thanksgiving. Many of you undoubtedly enjoyed a big Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family. Some students stayed at school and prepared for Finals right before or after Christmas.

Some prospective students did not have to prepare for tests, but instead are preparing to go back to school. That means looking into scholarships, loans and "creative financing".

Don't forget about the FCS Newsletter's 10k scholarship drawing on December 15th. If you're the lucky winner you'll head into 2009 in style! Click Here to Register

In this newsletter we'll be discussing the best strategies to win scholarships and get student loans approved. In recent newsletters we've talked about all the different kinds of financial aid. Now you can put what you learned to the test!

Follow Instructions!
A large number of scholarship and loan applications are not accepted due to small errors. This can include missing information and skipped steps in the process. For example, students can fill out the first page on some online scholarships in just a few minutes but they may not click through to the application completion page to finalize the registration.

The FAFSA application requires that you get a lot of different information from different places. Make sure its all included and 100% accurate.

Prepare in Advance
Most applications will have some sort of deadlines. Some scholarships are given away once a year or once a month. Increase your chances by registering more than once (once a week with FCS) if you can. For the 2008-2009 school year, the FAFSA deadline is June 30th, 2009. Don't miss these government deadlines:
* Federal Student Financial Aid Deadlines
* State Student Financial Aid Deadlines
Many scholarships also require a "personal statement" of some kind. Don't save this for the last minute!

The Law of Averages
You can improve your chances by researching as many financial aid and scholarship opportunities as possible. Many scholarships do not cost anything to enter, so if you do the research and submit your best work, you'll have a much better chance at landing some financial aid.

An application is very similar to a resume. If you spend the time to write the best resume you possibly can, and then submit it to several dozen jobs you're interested in, you'll have a great shot at landing an interview. The interview is like a scholarship essay. You have an opportunity to justify why you're interested in the opportunity and convince other people that you will do well.

July FCS 10k Scholarship Finalist: Janice Marcharl Name: Janice Marcharl

"When I first got that call I got chills when I heard it was from FCS, I couldn't believe it. When I heard i won the money I couldn't believe it , I first said "Are you serious?" I couldn't imagine something like this happening to me. It all came at the right time because this is my first year of college and I was having a hard time getting a loan and trying to pay off my dream school (Suffolk University). Being a full time student and a part time worker puts a damper on everything with my social life, but working to juggle all those things was a hassle. This scholarship is helping me pay for my second semester of college and I can't find any bigger word to thank you for that. Thanks FCS!"
