Hello FCS Subscriber! Think you can’t qualify for scholarships or grants? Don’t give up. Too often students search for scholarships and find they don’t qualify for one after another. Either they are not the right gender or they are not from the right ethnic group or their grades aren’t good enough. And when they find that they don’t qualify for one scholarship after another, they give up.
Why not look for money where you don’t have to meet all those requirements that are locking you out? FreeCollegeScholarships wants to help you pay for college. We’re offering a $10k scholarship drawing on May 15th and you don’t have to meet any limiting requirements. All you have to do is register for the drawing. Click Here to Register
Almost There
In this newsletter we’re going to talk about how to get money when it looks like you don’t meet restrictive criteria. Most corporate scholarships are awarded through a non-profit subsidiary of the corporation. They must award a certain percentage of announced scholarships each year to keep their non-profit status. If you are close to their requirements, but don’t meet them, call and talk to the awards committee chair. Say something like, “You require a 3.5 grade point average and mine is only 3.3. What are the chances you would accept a lower GPA than the one announced?” You may well be surprised at how many will work with you.
New Scholarships
Some new scholarships, those that were announced for the first time over the last six months, have not yet made it in to the online scholarship data bases. Set up an appointment with your high school and college financial aid office advisors and ask to talk with a specialist in new scholarships and grants. Let the advisor know you don’t qualify on academic, sex, and ethnic requirements. Concentrate your discussion on those grants and scholarships that are open to you. Specifically ask about newly announced scholarships.
No Qualifications Needed
You have no doubt heard that every year there are scholarships that go unawarded. Some of them only require that you apply. In other words, like our scholarship drawing, these scholarships and grants are open to anyone who applies. |

Your Department's Committee
Phone the professor heading your college department’s scholarship and grant committee. Get his/her name from the departmental secretary. Ask for a listing of the scholarships and grants that do not require academic, sex, or ethnic requirements – especially those that were not awarded last year. Ask the professor to recommend grants and scholarships you would have a good chance to get. You will probably be surprised and pleased with the results.
Don't Give Up
What ever you do, don’t give up. Try the unconventional. Change the rules. Make the process work for you.
